Maintenance

with Robert Monchen

The exhibition stemmed from the idea that maintance work is the act of keeping our bodies and spaces in existence, without producing anything. A labour of care is a continuous line of work that is always present but mostly unseen. This notion was translated to the operations of the off space and it’s surrounding public spaces.

During the exhibition a scenography was created in which the space, bodies and materials were maintained by cleaning, painting and renting a container that you were confronted with while entering the building. Daily gestures of care were taken as the vantage point of the various maintenance performances that were rehearsed and presented on the finissage.
