Written like Buren

The performance duo buren perform in- and outside of the replica of Daniel Buren’s Le Décor et son Double. The piece by Buren was originally shown during Chambres Des Amis in 1985 in both S.M.A.K. and in a bedroom of Annick en Anton Herbert and was rebuilt for the exhibition The Collection (1), Highlights for a Future (2019) in the first main gallery of the Museum of Fine Arts (MSK).

Dressed in red and white striped dresses, the performance situates in the two spaces created by the placement the work. Melissa Mabesoone and Oshin Albrecht read and write to one another trough their phones and pass written letters by asking the audience to bring it to the other space. The tension between the two performers and the interaction with the passers-by exaggerate the décor and it’s spatial implications, strenghtening the relations between the two bodies present in space.

The performance forms an adaption of Dearly Dialogues, a correspondence buren started when being apart from one another, between New York and Bekegem. In this piece, presented during Plan B in Bekegem, showed the letters to one another, highlighting the similarities and differences between the rooms they reside in and the décor that surrounds them.
